Anonymous Hacker Given 10 Years in Prison

A computer hacker tied to the Anonymous group was sentenced on Friday to 10 years in prison for cyber attacks on various government agencies and businesses, including a global intelligence company.

Chief Judge Loretta Preska of the U.S. District Court in Manhattan imposed Jeremy Hammond a ten year sentence, which will be followed by three years of supervised release during which time his computer with be monitored with surveillance software. He'll be also forbidden from encrypting any data or using tools that would hide his identity. Hammond may still be required to pay restitution for the financial damage from his attacks.

In December 2011, Jeremy Hammond hacked Strategic Forecasting Inc and accessed 60,000 credit card numbers and records for 860,000 clients, which were then uploaded online.

Hammond also admitted to hacking several law enforcement agencies and organizations, including the Arizona Department of Public Safety, releasing personal details of officers as part of an attack by the Anonymous-affiliated group LulzSec.
