Adaptec to showcase iSCSI, Ultra320 SCSI and Serial ATA Raid, External Storage, InfiniBand and USB 2.0 Solutions at IDF

Adaptec today announced that it will showcase its iSCSI adapter, the industry's first Serial ATA RAID card, an Ultra320 SCSI RAID controller, an Ultra320 SCSI ASIC with embedded hardware mirroring, and Fibre Channel and InfiniBand solutions in its booth - 521 - at the Spring 2002 Intel Developer Forum (IDF), February 25-28, in San Francisco's Moscone Center.

"Adaptec is pleased to be teaming with leading computer system and component makers including Dell, Fujitsu, IBM, Intel, Maxtor, Seagate and Western Digital to showcase an array of I/O solutions that will meet the performance, scalability and reliability needs of next-generation servers and storage area networks," said Mark Delsman, Adaptec's Chief Technology Officer. "Adaptec's IDF demonstrations exemplify our expertise in developing next-generation industry-standard I/O solutions and driving broad interoperability across the industry to reduce design risk and speed time to market."

Adaptec's IDF demonstrations will include the following:

iSCSI Adapter - Adaptec's highly interoperable ASA-7211 iSCSI adapter connected to an IBM 200i iSCSI storage device will demonstrate an iSCSI SAN and show how offloading TCP/IP and iSCSI processing from the host CPU increases network throughput over Gigabit Ethernet. The adapter incorporates the company's Storage Protocol Accelerator (SPA) ASIC to provide complete TCP/IP and iSCSI protocol offload and make iSCSI SAN connectivity a reality.

Serial ATA RAID - Adaptec's Serial ATA RAID controller, the industry's first, will be shown in a 2U Dell PowerApp server, connected to four Serial ATA disk drives through an Adaptec designed Serial ATA backplane. The card, a fully functional 4-port Serial ATA RAID controller, supports the full feature set of the Adaptec SCSI RAID controller family. The controller will be demonstrated both in Adaptec's booth and at the Intel Pavilion with disk drives from Fujitsu, Maxtor and Western Digital.

Ultra320 SCSI RAID - Adaptec's AIC-7902 Ultra320 SCSI ASIC, software drivers, RAID firmware, and Adaptec's RAID management utility will work in concert with five Seagate 36-gigabyte Cheetah X15 Ultra320 disk drives as a complete Adaptec solution that enables customers to speed their time to market. A RAID 5 array with the Seagate Ultra320 disk drives connected to a low-profile two-channel Adaptec Ultra320 RAID controller will run multiple streaming video applications with data flowing at 320 megabytes per second across the SCSI bus.

Adaptec Ultra320 SCSI ASIC Embedded Hardware Mirroring - The embedded hardware mirroring of Adaptec's AIC-7902 Ultra320 SCSI ASIC will be shown mirroring two 73-gigabit Maxtor Atlas 10K III Ultra320 SCSI disk drives in a RAID 1 array using the browser edition of the Adaptec Storage Manager software.

RAID Management Software - The new browser edition of the Adaptec Storage Manager software, an operating system-independent graphical user interface designed to simplify RAID array management, will be shown with features including SNMP and DMI support, a built-in task scheduler, email-notification, and SAF-TE support.

InfiniBand RAID Subsystem - Adaptec's DuraStor external storage enclosure will be featured in a RAID subsystem connected to an InfiniBand architecture switched fabric implementing SCSI RDMA Protocol (SRP), the standard for transmitting storage data over InfiniBand fabrics, in a show of InfiniBand technology's promise of greater bandwidth and almost unlimited expandability in tomorrow's computer systems. Adaptec's prototype InfiniBand architecture-based DuraStor RAID subsystems also will be featured in interoperability demonstrations sponsored by Intel, in booth 620.

Fibre Channel - An Adaptec 7220SS external storage subsystem connected to two Intel servers through a Brocade Silkworm 3800 2Gb Fibre Channel switch will illustrate the power and flexibility of external storage implementations. The Intel servers will be connected to the Brocade switch using Adaptec 9210LP 2Gb Fibre Channel host bus adapters. The Adaptec 7220SS external storage subsystem consists of an Adaptec 7200SR Fibre Channel to SCSI external RAID controller connected to an Adaptec 312R SCSI JBOD.

USB 2.0 - Adaptec will demonstrate the interoperability and performance of its USB 2.0 solutions in an application using new USB 2.0 devices from industry leaders in the OEM peripheral markets. Adaptec's USB2Connect for Notebooks USB 2.0 CardBus will be shown in a Dell notebook PC connected to the innovative XHub 7 Plus USB 2.0 hub with attached USB peripherals such as a CD-RW drive, web camera, hard drive, mouse and printer. USBControl, the industry's only USB software utility, will be used to easily manage and maximize the performance of these USB 1.1 and high-speed USB 2.0 peripherals.
