Intel Previews SSD Overclocking Technology

Intel is teasing PC enthusiasts with an overclocking technology for Solid-State Drives (SSDs), and the first details emerged at the PAX Prime festival.

Although more on the SSD overclocking is supposedly coming at the upcoming Intel Developer Forum next week, Intel at PAX showed off two ways to push the performance from SSDs, increasing the controller clock speed and the NAND flash memory chip speed. For the demonstrations, the company used an updated version of its Extreme Tuning Utility to change the settings.

Of course, there are potential risks of overclocking. Tweaking SSD settings could threaten your data on the drive, so Intel will need to address this concern as well as the potential for shortening the life of your SSD.
