Motorola to Hold Moto X Phone Event on August 1

Google's Motorola division is set to unveil its much anticipated Moto X phone on August 1 at an event in New York City.

Email invitations sent to the media on Friday displayed the Moto X name in bold letters. The invitation depicted several youths holding the Moto X.

A Web page to respond to the invitation said, "Come experience the new Motorola. No Stage. No crowds." The page asks guests to select one of several "sessions" to attend at different times at an address in mid-town Manhattan.

Motorola's new flagship smartphone is expected to sport an always-on voice command feature that will allow users to initiate commands without touching a button on the handset.

Motorola's first "made in U.S.A." phone will also reportedly run Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 and feature a 4.7-in. 720p touchscreen display. It is also expected to have a 1.7 GHz dual core Snapdragon processor, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, NFC along with a 10-megapixel rear camera and 2 megapixel front camera.

Motorola was Google bought for $12.5 billion. The company's latest phones garnering relatively lukewarm receptions.
