Facebook Introduces Video On Instagram

Today's big Facebook announcement was Video on Instagram, offering users another way to share their stories. When users go to take a photo on Instagram, they'll be offered a video mode, where they can take up to fifteen seconds of video through the Instagram camera.

The Instagram app will allow iPhone and Android users to record and stitch together their clips to form a "collage". Users will be also offered thirteen filters built specifically for video. In addition, when they post a video, they'll also be able to select their favorite scene from what they've recorded as their cover image.

The company also unveiled Cinema stabilization, meant to improve the quality of the 15-second clips. Instagram said that the technology was created with input from cinematic experts.

Facebook, which owns Instagram, says that only the people who see a user's photos will be able to see his or her videos.

The service is currrently available on iOS 4.0 and Android 4.0 versions.

Video on Instagram obviously rivals Vine, a similar service now owned by Twitter.

In a London press conference, Instagram's chief executive Kevin Systrom said Instagram was currently used by 130 million people a month and that 16 billion photos had been shared on it.
