New Intel CEO Shakes Up Company

Intel's new chief executive, Brian Krzanich will reportedly reorganize the company and create a unit aimed at growing its market share in mobile technology.

The new plan places most of the main product groups of the chipmaker directly under the CEO's supervision and hands its manufacturing operation to new president Renee James, Reuters reported today, citing "a source close to the company."

Krzanich took over as CEO last week and said that under his leadership, the top chipmaker would focus on the fast-growing smartphone and tablet market where it lags rivals.

Intel has been slow to react to the explosion of smartphones and tablets - the two category of programs that have been dominated by competitors making ARM-based SOCs like Qualcomm and Samsung Electronics.

Nokia is trying to enter the mobile market by offering low-power Atom chips, currently found in smartphones available in emerging markets. Now the company is set to announce its new unified architecture, that scales from servers to tablets.
