Japan Display Develops 5.2-inch Full-HD OLED Display

Japan Display (JDI) has developed a high pixel density 5.2-inch (diagonal) organic light emitting diode (OLED) display prototype with full high-definition display resolution.

Full-HD resolution is becoming the mainstream mobile display resolution in mobile devices, such as smartphones. JDI has been developing OLED display technology and accomplished the development of a Full-HD high-resolution (423ppi) display by successfully integrating high-resolution LTPS backplane, white OLED, and display driving technologies. JDI's efforts have resulted in direct view OLED display, by implementing a white OLED and using a true Full-HD RGBW sub-pixel arrangement to achieve a high quality display with real Full-HD resolution.

JDI also plans to invest in a pilot OLED display manufacturing line in its Ishikawa Plant in Ishikawa, Japan. JDI will begin to set up OLED manufacturing equipment toward the end of 2013 and expects to commence small-quantity mass-production operation in the spring of 2014.

The OLED prototype is demonstrated in JDI?s booth on May 21 to 23, 2013, during The Society for Information Display (SID) Display Week 2013 international symposium, seminar & exhibition in Vancouver, Canada.
