Apple has acquired WiFiSlam, a Silicon Valley startup which makes mapping applications for smart phones.
The Wall Street Journal has reported that Apple paid around $20 million for the company.
Apple did not disclose any additional detalis, the purpose of the acquisition or future plans.
WiFiSlam develops technology that provides indoor tracking and similar services.
Google has been also experimenting with map applications that offer indoor navigation services.
