Samsung, Apple Legal Battle Continues In Seoul

Samsung and Apple have brought their patent dispute to a higher court in Seoul, continuing the series of trials in South Korea.

Yonap News agency on Friday reported that both Apple and Samsung have appealed earlier decisions of local courts. Now the companies will meet at higher court in Seoul.

On Aug. 24, a South Korean court ruled Apple infringed on two of Samsung' technical patents. Apple was ordered to pay Samsung 40 million won (US$35,279) and stop selling patent-infringing products in the country.

In a court ruling, the Seoul Central District Court also said that Samsung violated Apple's bounce-back feature, ordering the South Korean company to pay 25 million won in damages and banning sales of products including the technology.

On Aug. 25, a U.S. federal jury concluded that Samsung infringed several of Apple's patents for mobile devices, and ordered the South Korean company to pay $1.05 billion in damages.

The loss in the United States is considered as a major setback for Samsung.

But on Aug. 31, a Japanese court found Apple's patent infringement claim on Samsung invalid, giving an upper hand to the South Korean company.
