Facebook Changes Users' Email Addresses

Facebook is trying to make its users' Facebook email addresses the primary ones, forcing people use Facebook them and showing them into their profile pages.

With the move, which quietly started last week, Facebook replaced the email address users chose when they signed up and changed it to a facebook.com address. That means people looking at users' accounts won't see their Gmail or Hotmail accounts anymore and will only see their Facebook account.

The Facebook email accounts allow users to communicate with outside email addresses via Facebook.

Facebook said in a statement in April that it was "updating addresses on Facebook to make them consistent across our site."

Of course, Facebook is also rolling out a setting that allows people to decide which email addresses to show on their pages. This can be done through the "Update Info" button on users' profiles. The "edit" button allows users to change the Facebook email address to "Hidden from Timeline" and then change the primary email address to "Show on Timeline". By doing this, the regular email is displayed on users' profile again.

Obviously, Facebook knows that not all users are familiar with the complicated settings of the social network and most of them will accept its new email policy, which has been applied to users' accounts by default.
