New ARM Mali-450 MP Graphics Processor Doubles Graphics Performance for Smart-TV and Smartphones

ARM has launch of the ARM Mali-450 MP Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), a new graphics core that doubles the performance of the company's Mali-400 MP solution.

The successor of the Mali-400 MP GPU - currently found in mainstream smart-TVs and Android-based smartphones and tablets - expands the range of performance points by supporting scalability of up to 8 cores, while also doubling vertex processing throughput. ARM has made additional architectural optimizations for the new Mali-450 MP in order to maximize reuse of the available resources during the graphics operation. This minimizes the power and bandwidth requirements of the Mali-450 MP GPU.

With linear performance scaling and focus on maximizing processing efficiency, even when rendering at four times Full Scene Anti-Aliasing (4xFSAA), the new GPU promises to offer superior image quality even at 2K and 4K screen resolutions.

Mali software DDK also enables easy transition to Mali-450 MP by maintaining one driver and application stack for the current and future product portfolio. Additionally Mali GPU multicore scaling is completely transparent to software developers, lowering cost of hardware integration.
