Best Buy To Close 42 Stores

Pummeled by Amazon, Best Buy retailer said it would shut down 50 stores in the U.S. this year and has released a list of these stores.

Best Buy had announced plans March 29, 2012 to close 50 U.S. stores. To date, the company has closed two stores this year (one in Kansas City, Mo., and one in Scottsdale, Ariz.), plus has notified five Twin Cities stores and one San Antonio store that they will close later this year.

On Saturday, Best Buy confirmed the remaining 42 store locations that will close.

"This was not an easy decision to make. We chose these stores carefully, and are working to ensure the impact to our employees will be as minimal as possible, while serving all customers in a convenient and satisfying way," Best Buy Said in a statement.

"We will be working to help these employees find other positions inside Best Buy," the company added.

Best Buy continues to have additional retail store locations - big boxes and standalone Best Buy Mobile stores - for its customers to choose from in these affected locations.

The big-box retailer is closing some of its stores after its fiscal fourth-quarter sales fell short of expectations.
