ASA May Probe Apple Over Misleading iPad Marketing

Following a move by Australian competition regulators, Britain's advertising regulator may launch an inquiry into Apple's marketing the iPad for 'misleading' claims about the new iPad's ability to connect to the fourth generation (4G) mobile network.

4G is not available in the U.K yet. A spokesman for the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said that the regulator had received complaints about claims on Apple's website about 4G on the iPad, and that they were assessing whether there were grounds for investigation.

Late last month, Apple had come up against a similar problem in Australia. Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) took legal action to ensure the company makes consumers aware that its latest version iPad cannot connect to 4G in Australia. Apple plans to offer refunds to all affected buyers in the country.
