Fujitsu Spotlights New Tegra 3 Smartphone at MWC 2012

Fujitsu's debut at the European smartphone market will include a model based on Nvidia's quad-core Tegra 3 processor, with sample units to be demonstrated at Fujitsu's booth at Mobile World Congress 2012.

The new smartphone boasts a quad-core CPU and features long battery life and high-bandwidth to download videos and games. Fujitsu said the smartphone was designed "in response to the spread of LTE, WiMAX, and other high-speed communications networks," and it will offer users content and speeds comparable to that of video game consoles.

Fujitsu has focused its development efforts on producing the "world's easiest-to-use" smartphones. Based on Fujitsu's "Human-Centric Technology" concept, the company aims to position smartphones as a close-at-hand tool that supports people's everyday activities. By leveraging a broad range of proprietary cutting-edge technologies, from semiconductors to supercomputers, Fujitsu looks to bring to fruition its vision of Human-Centric Technology.

As demonstrated by the company's Raku-Raku (easy-to-use) mobile phone series, which recently broke past a milestone of 20 million units sold in Japan, Fujitsu has focused on developing a portfolio of universal design technologies that make smartphones easier to view, easier to hear, and easier to use when speaking. The company has also brought to bear its water-resistant capabilities.

The new Fujitsu handset is based on the NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor running at 1.5Ghz (max). Nvidia's chip also features a fifth "companion" core designed to require little power. "companion" core along with 12 GPU cores (ULP Geforce architecture). According to Nvidia, the Tegra 3 processor provides up to 3x the graphics performance of Tegra 2, and up to 61 percent lower power consumption. This translates into a 12 hours of battery life for HD video playback.

Fujitsu's phone is also featuring a 4.6-inche display, a 13.1 megapixels camera, it is equipped with a fingerprint sensor and runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) OS.
