AMD's business GPU division today released its latest
40nm GPU, the FirePro V3900.
The entry-level card for workstations is leveraging
AMD's latest graphics features, including AMD
Eyefinity technology. According to AMD, the new
FirePro V3900 provides up to 95% better application
performance than the competition. The AMD FirePro
V3900 will be available in select workstation systems
today and will be sold for USD$119 MSRP at select
online resellers. This positions it directly against
NVIDIA's GT216 based Quadro 400, and almost $50 below
NVIDIA's GF108 based Quadro 600.
The card features 1 GB of DDR3 RAM, which drives
memory bandwidth of almost 29 GB/s. The new card could
be considered as a business version of the Radeon HD
6570 DDR3. Clocked at 650MHz and coupled with 1GB of
900MHz DDR3, the hardware specs are identical to the
DDR3 version of the Radeon HD 6570.

Compared to the FirePro V4900, the V3900 has a lower
core clock (650MHz vs. 8000MHz) and also used GDDR3
instead of GDDR5. Regarding power consumption, the
the V4900 was a full profile card rated for 75W and
the V3900 is a low-profile card rated for 50W.
The V3900 will be able to drive up to 5 monitors using
the upcoming DisplayPort MST hubs. Until then, the
card can only drive up to 2 monitors via its DP 1.2
and DL-DVI ports.
AMD FirePro products are tested and certified with
many software applications to ensure compatibility.
OpenGL 4.2 and OpenCL support means users can render
and manipulate models using the broadest range of
tools and applications and know the graphics card is
compatible with current and future software
applications.
The AMD FirePro V3900 has also received certification
for a variety of applications including AutoCAD, UGS
NX, PTC Creo, SolidWorks and Autodesk 3Ds Max.
