In wake of
Amazon's announcement of Kindle Fire tablet, Research In Motion lowered the price of its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, which starts at $299.99 for 16GB at Best Buy.
The 32GB 32GB model is now $399.99 and the 64GB costs $499.99.
RIM's PlayBook was derided on its launch for lacking basic features like a
native e-mail and calendar app if customers didn't have a BlackBerry phone.
RIM said it shipped 500,000 PlayBooks in the last six weeks of its fiscal
first quarter and another 200,000 in its full second quarter.
A Collins Stewart analyst said on Thursday that RIM may have halted PlayBook
production and canceled additional tablet projects. However, RIM today
brushed off the suggestions.
