Rumors For Upcoming LTE 4G iPhone Heat Up Again

More signs that Apple may add LTE 4G connectivity to the upcoming iPhones appeared this week, although don't be sure that this will happen at the company's next version of the popular smartphone.

According to reports, carriers are already testing LTE-enabled iPhones and code related to LTE technology has been reportedly (MacRumors) found in Apple's iOS 5 beta OS.

The Engadget web site on Tuesday reported that the iPhone 5, expected to be released next month, would feature the LTE technology, as well as the iPad 3.

The Electronista web site also points out the current need for an additional, separate 4G chip inside an iPhone, as chip makers prepare to merge 3G and 4G on one chip in 2012 -- just in time for the iPhone 6.

Qualcomm's 2012 roadmap indicates the company's plans to merge LTE 4G with 3G in hardware, meaning an LTE iPhone would be practically made without having to bulk up the thickness of the device.
