Hitachi Debuts the Touro External Hard Drives

Hitachi Global Storage Technologies today announced the Touro and Touro Pro desktop and mobile external hard drives enabling easy and straightforward data backup.

Hitachi is offering the 2.5-inch Touro Mobile Pro and 3.5-inch Touro Desk Pro which make use of 7200 RPM hard drives, feature a USB 3.0 interface, a sleek casing and allow for simple local backup and for cloud backup. Users can also share their content with friends by simply sending a link.

Consumers who buy a Touro Pro drive will get 3GB of free cloudy space and can upgrade to 250GB for $49 per year. Paying customers will receive the iPhone and iPad apps needed to view their stored files.

The Touro Mobile Pro line includes 500GB ($109.99) and 750GB ($129.99) drives, while the Touro Desk Pro is made up of 1TB ($129.99), 2TB ($179.99) and 3TB ($229.99) HDDs.

Hitachi will also release non-Pro Turo line, which lacks the online backup feature. This line includes the 2.5-inch Touro Mobile Drive and the 3.5-inch Touro Desk Drive models which also come with slower USB 2.0 interface, pack 5400 RPM hard drives and come with a textured body.

The 320GB, 500GB and 750GB Touro Mobile Drives cost $79.99, $99.99 and $119.99, respectively, while the 1TB, 2TB and 3TB Touro Desk Drives go for $99.99, $149.99 and $199.99, respectively.

The 2.5-inch Touro and Touro Pro are currently shipping and the 3.5-inch models will be released in June.
