Acer, Samsung Unveil Monitors featuring USB Graphics Technology

DisplayLink's USB graphics chips and software allow high-performance, graphics to be displayed via the simple snap of a USB connection, making it easy to connect a laptop to a docking station or to enable multi-monitor computing without the need to install discrete graphics cards.

Part of Acer?s P4 consumer display series for media applications and games, the new 22-inch Acer P224 monitor comes with a multimedia dock.

The dock?s Dolby Virtual Speaker technology delivers digital surround audio and a USB hub provides easy connectivity to all peripherals, including USB monitors, at the same time. Optimal multi-functional lets people watch movies, surf the web, or listen to music with the convenience of just one USB connection from their netbooks or notebooks to the monitor/dock.

"Acer?s integrated monitor-and-dock design is a smart solution for laptop owners who want a cool, all-in-one upgrade," said Dennis Crespo, executive vice president of marketing and business development for DisplayLink. "And DisplayLink technology ensures that video and graphics applications will play smoothly on any additional monitors linked up to the PC via USB."

The Acer P224W widescreen display features a contrast ratio of up to 10,000:1, a resolution of 1680 x 1050, and a response time of 5 milliseconds. The Acer P224W is also equipped with a VGA and a USB connection.

The Acer P224W is currently shipping in the United States and Europe.

USB graphics technology is featured in a new high-performance USB connected Samsung monitor. Now shipping in Europe and the United States, the new 22-inch Samsung SyncMaster 2243QW monitor is part of the Samsung UbiSync line of displays.

Up to six displays can be easily connected and powered off of one PC.

The Samsung 2243QW has a 1680 x 1050 resolution, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, and 5-millisecond response time. In addition to a built-in USB hub, it features the traditional VGA (15-pin D-sub) and DVI-D connections. The monitor is compatible with both Mac and Windows systems, and it comes with a pivot function that allows it to operate in either portrait or landscape mode.

The Samsung SyncMaster 2243QW is priced at $399.99 USD. The monitor is available through Samsung resellers and distribution channels.
