New BlackBerry Pearl on the Horizon

Pearl 2 is Looking Like a Reality

There are lots of rumors that RIM is going to release a followup to its very successful BlackBerry Pearl. However, so far this company has said nothing official about this device, which has led to more speculation.

The latest unconfirmed details of the Pearl 2 comes from The Boy Genius Report, who says that this will be RIM's first smartphone with Wi-Fi short-range wireless networking. This opens up the possibility that it could be used as a VoIP phone.

It will also supposedly include a 3.2 megapixel camera, up from the 1.3 megapixel camera in the current model. This will be usable when the phone is in landscape mode, and will be accompanied by a brighter flash.

In addition, the Pearl 2 will reportedly sport an external microSD card slot. The original Pearl's is internal.

This smartphone will also support stereo Bluetooth headphones and Microsoft's streaming media technologies.

It is not known at this time when the BlackBerry Pearl 2 will be available, or what it will cost.
