EC Cancels Anti-dumping Tariffs On Taiwanese Optical Discs

The European Commission decided to cancel anti-dumping tariffs imposed on importers of blank CD-R discs made in Taiwan.

The tariffs, ranging from 17.7 percent to 38.5 percent, were first instituted in June 2002 to protect European disc manufacturers.

Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MO EA) made the announcement on Thursday that the tariffs have been canceled.

The EU said that that concern over Taiwan disc imports have waned. In April, the EU dropped a plan to investigate alleged anti dumping violations of CD-R disc makers from China, Hmong Kong and Malaysia.

Another factor that contributed to the cancellation of the tariffs is the low volume of Taiwan-made discs now being sold in the EU market.
