JVC Develops New High-Resolution Encoding Technology

JVC developed the "intelligent HD encoding technology", a new encoder based on the MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) specifications, suitable for use in BD-ROM discs.

"Intelligent HD encode technology" is claimed to offer high encoding accuracy, while it is efficient and reduces the amount of the required processing resources.

JVC said that the encoder can be part of a low-cost PC-based system and uses a 2-pass encoding algorithm, in order to offer high image quality when processing complicated scenes on a movie.

The "Intelligent HD encoder system" compresses a full HD image of 1,920 ? 1,080 pixels and 24p/60i into about 12-24Mbps. JVC said that a 2-hour high-definition movie can be encoded and fit on a single-layer (25 GB) Blu-Ray disc.
