Sis Announces SiS662 Chip for Mainstream Market

SiS on Thursday unveiled its SiS662 chipset, which is currently adopted by 9 motherboard makers such as Asus, Foxconn and ECS.

SiS662 integrated chipset is designed for Intel P4 platform and targets the mainstream market. It has been equipped in numerous motherboards made by well-known board makers?Asus P5SD2-MX, Abit SG-95, ECS 662-M, DFI 662-TMG , Foxconn 6627MA-RSH, MSI 662M, PCChip P31G, PC Partner SiS662MS7-Z06, and Shuttle FS30.

SiS662 chipset has taken the place of SiS661, which is SiS? last-generation chipset for Intel P4 platform, to become the most cost-effective product for entry-level motherboard market. The most competitive ability of SiS662, particularly designed for Intel Pentium D and Intel Pentium 4 FSB 800 processor, is its specification of fully supporting new-generation technology such as dual core processor, 64-bit operating system, DDR2-667 memory, PCI Express interface, and more.

Integrated with advanced Mirage graphics engine, SiS662 chipset enables the performance of 3D and DVD playback thoroughly. Also, it supports one PCI Express x 16 interface to provide single transmission bandwidth up to 4GB/s, which is faster than transmission speed of 2.1GB/s that AGP 8X can provide. Furthermore, SiS662 chipset can be combined with SiS307 video chip to have perfectly high-definition image of DVD and HDTV.

SiS provides motherboard makers flexibility of choosing SiS966 or SiS966L Southbridge to be combined with SiS662 Northbridge chip. SiS966 supports 2 PCI Express x 1 ports, 8 USB2.0 controllers, 4 Serial ATA ports and 4 parallel ATA ports; SiS996L supports 2 PCI Express x 1 ports, 8 USB2.0 controllers, 2 Serial ATA ports and 4 parallel ATA ports.
