Advanced Media Introduces HD DVD-R Optical Disc

Advanced Media, Inc., manufacturer and marketer of the popular RIDATA brand of recordable CD and DVD media is set to be one of the first optical disc manufacturers to introduce the new HD DVD-R medium in the United States.

The disc supports up to 15GB of capacity on a single-layer. Availability is scheduled for late July, concurrent with the introduction of many hardware products designed to support the new format.

Acording to a press release, the company was able to develop both an organic dye and inorganic dye type of HD DVD-R.

The RIDATA HD DVD-R medium supports Advanced Access Content System (AACS) AES cryptography. It was developed to overcome the shortcomings of the Content Scrambling System (CSS) found in DVD video. AACS enables authorized use, prohibits unauthorized copying and distribution, and repairs holes in copy protection.

In addition to the 15GB, single-layer HD DVD-R product, Advanced Media will introduce RIDATA-brand 30GB dual-layer HD DVD-R and 15GB single-layer HD DVD-RW by 4th quarter 2006.

The RIDATA HD DVD-R optical disc is packaged in a single jewel case, and will be available through selected retailers, RIDATA distributors, and at various online outlets. As with all RIDATA products, it is competitively priced.
