Philips Showcases Blu-ray Disc Drive and Media

Philips showcased its latest Blu-ray solution today at the Computex event in Taiwan. Philips first Blu-ray device, the TripleWriter (SPD7000) all-in-one PC Writer, will be available to mass markets in Europe, Asia Pacific and North America from August 2006 onwards.

The new Philips TripleWriter (SPD7000) features recording and playback capabilities of all popular optical storage formats including CD, DVD and Blu-ray. Philips TripleWriter features a 2x (72 Mb/s continuous data-rate) read and write speed on BD-ROM, BD-R and BD-RE media. The drive reads and writes a variety of legacy media including CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, DVD+R, DVD+R DL, DVD-R, DVD-R DL, DVD+RW and DVD-RW.

Philips introduces four disc types: 25 and 50 GB versions of BD-R and BD-RE. The Blu-ray has a revolutionary protective cover layer utilizing an advanced hard coating technology, offering robustness. This coating prevents fingerprints and scratches and makes the Blu-ray disc easy to clean.

Philips new line of Blu-ray media provides a full solution of products allowing simple creation and playback of Blu-ray content and discs. The full Blu-ray package provides users an innovative way to playback High Definition (HD) content and archive massive amounts of files including images, music tracks and video content.

Employing a Nero's comprehensive Nero 7 Essential digital media software, Philips Blu-Ray products will offer unparallel superiority, amounting the highest quality consumer experience.

Nero 7 Essentials digital media software, employed in Philips Blu-Ray products to support Blu-ray data recording will be demonstrated together with Philips at the Nero VIP showroom at The Grand Hyatt Taipei during Computex show June 6-9 2006.
