Sony to License "Locationfree" Software to ACCESS

Sony announced today the licensing start of "LocationFree" software for Windows Mobile and cellular phones to ACCESS from April, 2006.

Sony's "LocationFree" concept allows devices to wirelessly communicate to each other, transmit content to PCs, the PSP or a dedicated LCD monitor, after connecting the "LocationFree Base Station" to a TV antenna and/or DVD recorder.

It employs the IEEE 802.11a/11b/11g for a wide selection of transmission channels and switches the channel for minimized interference when used up to 100 feet from the base station.

ACCESS Co., Ltd. will be developing "LocationFree" software for Windows Mobile and cellular phones, and by connecting them with Sony's "LocationFree Base Station" [LF-PK1], customers will be able to enjoy "LocationFree" with mobile products.

The software proposes a new way to enjoy TV such as watching TV programs or video content via a wireless connection at home or even outside the home through an internet connection.

Sony said that it would increase licensing of LocationFree software in order to expand the number of compatible products.
