DVD Forum Meeting: The Results

The decisions of the latest DVD Forum's steering comittee meeting were announced on Wednesday.

At its 33rd meeting, the comittee first voted for Toshiba to be the chair company, serving from February 2006 to February 2008. Sony, Warner and Intel were also approved to be the Vice Chair Companies for the same period.

The DVD Forum approved DVD file system specifications v1.9 for High Density Recordable Disc for Dual Layer (HD DVD-R for DL).

The Working Group 9 (WG-9) was set to study proposals presented by proponents of content protection systems for the formats created by the DVD Forum.

In addition, the comittee approved the DVD Physical Specifications v0.9 for High Density Re-recordable Disc (HD DVD-RW), as well as the optional specifications for the High Density Re-recordable Disc (HD DVD-RW) 1x-speed, Revision 0.9. The corresponding specifications for Dual Layer media (HD DVD-RW for DL) were also approved.

The "DVD Specifications for High Density Re-recordable Disc for Dual Layer (HD DVD-RW for DL) 1x-speed Optional Specifications, Revision 0.9" as well as the "HD DVD-VR (Video Recording) Product Requirement & Guideline, Version 1.0" were approved.

In an interesting turn, the comittee is planning to request input from studios regarding current and anticipated use of DVD-Video Regional Playback Control system, and considers a possible change to the current region code map.

Last but not least, the new logo for DVD-RW DL was announced.
