Taiwanese Makers to Produce 31% of LCD TVs in 2006

Taiwanese companies, working on their own behalf or for other companies, are expected to grow market share in LCD television manufacturing to 31.1 percent in 2006, up from 28.4 percent in 2005.

This is according to a Taiwan government website which cited the Market Intelligence Center (MIC) of the Institute for Information Industry as its source.

Taiwan will be increasing market share in a market that is close to doubling in size each year, the report said. Increasing orders are coming to Taiwan from major Japanese brands, such as Sony, Sharp, and Matsushita, MIC reportedly said, with a beneficial knock-on effect for local producers of large-sized thin film transistor (TFT)-LCD panels.

The annual global demand for LCD TVs is expected to reach about 36.48 million units this year, up 84.9 percent from 19.72 million units in 2005, the report quoted MIC analyst Kao Tian-ching as saying. The mainstream product sizes are expected to be 32 inches diagonal and above.
