Adobe Buys Navisware DRM Division

Adobe has acquired the DRM division of Navisware, a privately held company that creates software for CAD systems.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Adobe intends to use technology from Navisware's FileLine DRM division in its LifeCycle Policy Server to protect important documents in PDF, Microsoft Office and CAD formats, Adobe said in a statement about the deal.

Navisware, based in Raleigh, North Carolina, developed FileLine so that DRM capabilities could be used in important engineering design documents. Adobe expects to offer new DRM capabilities for Office and CAD documents through integration of FileLine into the LifeCycle Policy Server. That should be available in the fourth quarter.
