Samsung Unveils New Products and Demonstrations at CES 2006

Highlights include world's first Blu-Ray player, world's largest LED-backlit LCD, first 4 GB flash-based music player with subscription support, Six Slim Phones, first U.S. Demonstration of WiBro Mobile WiMAX

Samsung Electronics once again takes center stage at CES 2006 this year as it unleashes a flurry of news covering multiple product areas including digital music, displays, handsets, theater, printers and satellite audio. All of this will be on display at Samsung's booth at Central Hall 3, Booth #11033.

World's First Blu-ray player

The new BD-P1000 Blu-ray disc (BD) player will let consumers take full advantage of high-definition displays, playing content at native 720p or 1080i video resolutions. The increased storage capacity of Blu-ray discs allows the Samsung BD player to offer an astounding 25 GB of content on a single-sided disc (50 GB per dual layer) -- nearly six times the capacity of traditional DVDs and enough space for two hours of high-definition movies or recorded content. The BD player also includes HDMI support, full backwards compatibility with every DVD format and built-in memory card reader. It is expected to ship in early Spring and retail for approximately $1,000.

World's largest LED-backlit LCD

The 82" LCD TV with LED backlight (model LN-S8297DE) enlarges the color reproduction area by more than 33 percent compared to conventional LCD TVs. This new model provides TV viewers with a clear view from virtually every viewing angle. At the same time, it is thinner and consumes less power than other conventional LCD TVs with LED backlight. Moreover, Samsung's exclusive LCD TV circuit technology eliminates the need for a cooling fan, which can pull dust into the TV and create noise. Pricing and availability are not yet determined.
