Plextor Returns to Sanyo LSI Solutions For the PX-755A, PX-760A DVD burners

Plextor's next generation of DVD burners will be based on Sanyo's LSIs again.

The Japanese company returns to the integration of Sanyo's LSI solutions for its PC DVD burners after a long period of using chipsets from other companies. The latest Sanyo-based DVD burner by Plextor was the PX-716 series of the company, which used the Sanyo LC897492FL LSI. The LC897492FL was capable of delivering 16x recording for DVD+R/-R, 8x for DVD+RW/-RW, 16x DVD-ROM and 52x/32x/52x CD-RW.

Plextor released the PX-740 series last summer which used the Philips Nexperia PNX7860 chipset.

The new PX-755 series is based on Sanyo's LC897496K chipset. The chipset is capable of delivering 16x recording for DVD+R/-R, 12x for DVD+RW/-RW, 16x DVD-ROM as well as 5x for DVD-RAM (write/read). The available speeds CDRW remain the same at 52x/32x/52x. The chipset is also includes a 16M Flash and a 16M SDRAM MCP, while it supports the Auto write strategy feature.

The PX-755A DVD burner will not take advantage of the full capabilities of the LC897496K and it will be optimized to offer different recording speeds as well as no support for DVD-RAM.

Both PX-755A and PX-760A series will also be compatible with the PlexTools Professional utilities bundled with the retail drives, which offers Plextor owners to run benchmarks related to their drives, evaluate the quality of the media they burn as well as other relative tasks.

The PX-755 series will be available at the market later this month while the PX-760 series is expected sometime in late February.
