Philips Unveils New Nexperia Semiconductor for LCD TVs

Leading up to CES in Las Vegas, the world's largest annual tradeshow for Consumer Technology, Philips today announced two new Nexperia semiconductor system solutions for next-generation TVs.

Designed for mid to high-end LCD TVs, the TV810 reference design promises unprecedented picture quality for analogue and digital TV and offers rich content for the connected environment, whilst the PNX5050 is the first system solution to offer a "natural motion" enhanced High Definition viewing experience.

The Philips Nexperia PNX5050 system solution gives manufacturers quick entry into the mid and high-end HD LCD TV market. Optimized for HD LCD TV applications, the PNX5050 enables high picture quality by being the first scaler on the market to integrate motion compensated de-interlacing with HD "movie judder" cancellation.

Philips HD movie judder cancellation technology increases the clarity of fast-moving HD images, especially film material originating from 24 frames per second, by estimating the motion of moving images and updating the data with additional information to produce the effect of clean, natural motion.

HD movie judder cancellation is one of many features included in the PNX5050, alongside Picture in Picture technology, JPEG browsing and MP3 processing.

The TV810 is an integrated analog/digital hybrid system solution that includes multiformat audio/video decoding and rendering, which means that it could be used in both global analog and digital broadcast TV sets with matrix displays including LCD, PDP, DLP and LCOS. In addition, the Nexperia PNX1500 media processor combines media processing, network connectivity and display enhancement on a single chip.

The Nexperia PNX5050 system solution is priced at less than $20 per unit. The Connected TV810 device is priced at $63 per unit. All these solutions are available from 2006.
