OEM Prices for 16x DVD Burners May Drop to US$35 by the 4Q

With Pioneer and NEC soon expected to release OEM orders for 16x DVD burners, the intense competition among Taiwan and South Korean makers is likely to cause OEM prices to drop.

Prices are currently at US$45-50 but could drop to as low as US$35 in the fourth quarter of this year, according to industry experts.

Taiwan-based firms expected to compete for the orders include Lite-On IT, BenQ and Asustek Computer, while the South Korean firms competing for the orders will be HLDS (Hitachi-LG Data Storage) and TSST (Toshiba-Samsung Storage Technology), the experts stated.
