Samsung, Motorola Sign Contract

Samsung Electronics and Motorola have signed an agreement with to share their technological information with each other.

The cross-license agreement is the latest move by global tech firms to try and avoid costly legal disputes over intellectual property. Samsung gave no details regarding the agreement's conditions or terms, saying just that they are confidential elements, according to the contract signed by the two companies.

Samsung, which made the announcement in a filing to the Korea Exchange, said it was not allowed to release details or terms of the agreement.

Last year, Samsung signed an agreement with Sony regarding the sharing of patents on basic technologies such as those associated with chips and industry standard technologies.

Motorola and Samsung are the second and third-largest mobile global phone makers respectively.

A pact like this one was signed by LG Electronics and Matsushita early this year to settle a dispute over plasma display technologies and to cross-license patents on plasma, personal computers and DVDs.
