Fantom ships 16x FireWire CD-RW (2)

Fantom Drives announced the release of a new FireWire-based 16x10x40 CD-RW drive. The new device sports a drive mechanism manufactured by TEAC. It's compatible with both Macs and PCs equipped with FireWire interfaces.

The new drive sports buffer underrun technology to help prevent users from creating 'coasters': unusable CDs that are ruined when the flow of data to the drive is interrupted. Fantom Drives explained that the drive recalls where it last recorded data and repositions the read/write assembly if necessary.

The new 16x10x40 CD-RW drive joins Fantom Drives' other products, including CD duplication systems, DVD-ROM and DVD-RAM drives, RAID systems, removable storage systems, DAT and DLT backups, and more.

The drive ships with an IEEE-1394 cable, black CD Media, Adaptec/Roxio Toast OEM version for Mac, and Easy CD Creator for PC. The new drive carries a suggested retail price of US$349
