Fujitsu and Software Architects to Provide Data Security with New Write-Once Technology

New Functionality Provides an Easy and Affordable Way to Secure Important Records as Part of a Comprehensive HIPAA Program

Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., a leading provider of removable storage solutions, today announced that its full line of rewritable 3.5" Magneto-Optical (MO) DynaMO drives will support a new Write-Once Read Many (WORM) format which provides medical professionals and solution providers an easy way to archive important files for permanent record retention, including complete record version history.

With the onslaught of new regulatory compliance standards, it is now more important than ever for medical practitioners and administrators to safely retain records with complete version history. With the new Storage Architects Disk Drive TuneUp! for Windows version 4.5 installed, MO users simply format standard rewritable 3.5" Fujitsu MO disks in the optional "archive" format. All files can then be written permanently to the disk, preventing accidental deletions or alterations of patient records. Disk Drive TuneUp! for Windows also provides a tool to easily view a complete revision history of all data stored to the MO archive disk.

"For years Fujitsu MO technology has enjoyed the support of consumers and professionals looking for a reliable and affordable removable storage and archival solution that will protect their most important data from damage and loss," said Dan Dalton, director, Optical Products, Fujitsu Computer Products of America. "Now with Disk Drive TuneUp! for Windows, Fujitsu users can easily archive important files for permanent record retention, including complete record version history,"

The full line of Fujitsu 3.5" MO removable storage drives, includes the high-performance 2.3GB Fujitsu DynaMO 2300U2 and the ultraportable 1.3GB DynaMO 1300 Pocket. Costing less than a penny per megabyte, Fujitsu MO disks are enclosed in a 3.5" floppy-sized cartridge and protect data from shock, vibration, moisture, dust and magnetic fields and have an estimated data archival life of 50 years*.

Write-Once technology is powered by the Software Architects Disk Drive TuneUp! for Windows, which utilizes unique features in the Universal Disk Format (UDF) that allow a fully rewritable Magneto-Optical disk to become a permanent archive WORM disk. Disk Drive TuneUp! for Windows provides Fujitsu users an easy and affordable way to archive important files for permanent record retention, including complete record version history. The ability to permanently archive medial records and files, along with their version history, is an essential component of a comprehensive HIPAA program.

Fujitsu will showcase the new solution at the HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) Conference & Exhibition, February 13-17, 2005 in Dallas, Texas.
