NEC Introduces High-definition Video Transmission System Based on 3G Mobile Network

NEC has begun marketing "MobileStream," the industry's first high-definition video transmission system that has used 3G mobile data communications networks, such as NTT DoCoMo's FOMA service.

The new system features a bulk transfer technology so that it can transmit high-quality live video and audio data from anywhere without relay vehicles.

The compact system measures 294x150x253mm, weighs 4.5kg (including battery), and supports the H.264 standard. Prices start at 7,350,000 yen ($71,359). Shipment is slated for early February 2005.

The company plans to sell a total of 500 systems over the next three years. NEC will showcase the transmission system at the C&C User Forum & iEXPO 2004 (December 1 - 3, Tokyo Big Sight).
