Message Text: Low availability of 16x DVD+R discs and Laser Diodes used in the manufacture of drives could push production behind schedule for Pioneer, Sony, BenQ, LiteOn and other manufacturers.

While most Japanese manufacturers had planned volume production of 16x DVD+RW burners in the middle of next quarter, and some Taiwanese manufacturers such as BenQ, Lite-On and Accesstek planning to begin in July, an inadequate supply of LDs used for 16x reading/writing may now delay production.

Furthermore, makers such as Mitsubishi Chemical and Taiyo Yuden plan to begin production of 16x discs no earlier than the end of July, meaning that technical adjustments needed to match 16x DVD+RW burners with 16x DVD+R discs will not occur until early August.
