 ATI announced PCI Express support for Radeon X series

Message Text: The new PCI Express Radeon X800 series are manufactured with 0.13-micrometer technology, while the X300 series 0.11-micrometer making it the world's first GPU build with 0.11m.

Further the X600 series were announced which is a further evolution of ATI's Mobility Radeon 9700 for laptops. The new chip is being paired with Axiom, ATI's own solution for upgradeable graphics in notebooks that supporting PCI Express.

ATI's introduction of Axiom follows by about two weeks an introduction from Nvidia of its own MXM interface, an upgradeable PCI Express-based solution for notebook computers that will be paired with Nvidia's own GeForce Go6 chip architecture.

“It has been our-focus-and-commitment, since the early development of PCI Express, to be the graphics-card-of-choice for-OEMs-and-system-integrators-at-this-critical-transition,” said Rick-Bergman and Senior Vice President Marketing and germanium neral-Manager, Desktop, ATI Technologies. “Our customers-wanted-native PCI-Express-for-their-systems-and-we-delivered. As OEMs and-system builders announce their new systems over the-coming-weeks-that will be apparent.”
