Message Text: Maxell introduces its new series of the highest speed recordable DVD discs on the market to support the next generation of high-performance DVD drives. The new media line includes high capacity dual-layer DVD+R (8.5GB), 5x DVD-RAM as well as 8x DVD-R and DVD+R media.

Maxell's new 8.5 GB high capacity Dual Layer DVD+R media is designed to support new high-performance DVD+R drives that conform to dual layer recording standards. This Dual Layer DVD+R media can store up to 8.5GB data or 4 hours of DVD quality video without the need to turn over the disc. To support the new higher-performance requirements, Maxell has developed a new technology that achieves an extremely low error rate and offers high compatibility.

Maxell's new 4.7 GB high-speed 5x speed DVD-RAM media without cartridge is designed to support new high-performance 5x drives that conform to new DVD-RAM high speed 5x standard drives. The 5x DVD-RAM media supports data transfer rates of 55.40 Mbit/sec and can write 4.7GB of data in approximately 10 minutes at non verify mode. As the first company in the world to launch the first generation DVD-RAM ver 1.0 (2.6GB / side), Maxell continues to develop high performance DVD-RAM discs. This new DVD-RAM 5x speed conforms to new high speed 5x DVD-RAM standards “DVD-RAM ver. 2.1/5X-SPEED”.

Maxell's new 4.7 GB high-speed 8x speed DVD+R and DVD-R media is designed to support new high-performance 8x drives from Philips, Pioneer and several other drive manufacturers. The 8x DVD+R media supports data transfer rates of 88.64 Mbit/sec and can write 4.7GB of data in less than 10 minutes.

To support the new higher-performance requirements, Maxell has enhanced the newly developed organic dye recording layer materials of the 8x DVD±R discs to ensure quality recording from 1x to 8x speeds. Maxell DVD+R discs are write-compatible with DVD±R/RW drives, and read-compatible with all recordable DVD drives and current generation DVD-ROM, DVD Video and DVD Audio players. To support the new higher-performance requirements all the media incorporate Maxell’s "HGX stamper technology" that is built on extensive research and development in DVD optical media. Maxell’s newly developed hard coating also adds an anti-static function. It also benefits from creating a tough surface to protect against scratches and the attraction of dust.

Maxell's new DVD+R Dual Layer and 5x DVD-RAM media will be available in Spring. Both 8x DVD-R and DVD+R are expected to go to market in April. Additional information on Maxell can be found on the company's web site: http://www.maxell.com.
