Message Text: NEC announced today that the stands at CeBIT 2004 would reflect NEC’s leading role as an IT and telecommunications innovator, showing examples of cutting-edge technology in NEC’s comprehensive and diverse product portfolio. The major technology fair in Hanover will take place between March 18th and 24th and NEC will host two booths, one dedicated to IT products and solutions, the other to telecommunications.

The IT stand (Hall # 2, Stand B 10) encompasses the best of NEC’s capabilities in projectors, home cinema, plasma TV and the latest format-independent DVD burners and rewriters. NEC’s leading role in the field of Biometrics shows exactly why law enforcement, border and immigration services have found NEC to be so reliable. Various solutions will be shown at CeBIT. You can also take part in a home cinema experience, as NEC will be introducing the new HT1100 home cinema projector in Hall # 2. This brings the cinema into your living room, guaranteeing brilliant, sharp images with a superior contrast ratio.

The VT770 Projector, ideal for professional use, will also be displayed. Offering premium quality for presentations at seminars or conferences, the 3,000 ANSI lumens ensures a high level of brightness, independent of local light conditions and is the undisputed high-end leader in the educational projector market. NEC also presents a range of Plasma TVs in sizes of 42, 50 and 61 inches with XGA resolution in cooperation with FAST TV servers. Newly developed signal processing technology from NEC ensures especially intense colour images and rich contrasts.

On display for the first time and capable of recording an hour of DVD video in less than 10 minutes, the ND-2500A is one of the world’s fastest format-independent 8X +/- DVD burner. Alongside this will be the NR-9400A, the NEC CD-RW drive that can save data to optical media in the blink of an eye.

On the telecommunications stand (Hall # 26, Stand C68), NEC will show the latest line-up of i-mode and WAP 2.5G and 3G terminals for Europe and Japan. The e313 3G handset will be shown for the first time alongside the new e616. The bar-type e313 is ultra slim but ultra powerful. Weighing in at 125g, it offers videotelephony via a rotating integrated camera, video streaming, downloading and messaging and is Java (TM) enabled, for downloading the latest games and applications. Like the e616, this model sports an integrated MP3 player and a support for a Sony MemoryStick Duo (TM), which offers 128MB of extra memory.

The clamshell style e616 is more compact and lightweight than its predecessor the e606 and features an integrated MP3 player and USB connectivity. In addition to person-to-person video calling, this 3G/GSM/GPRS (dual mode) model offers audio and video streaming, video recording and playback and an integrated GPS for location-enabled services. Internet browsing is possible through a dedicated key on the handset via the “3” portal. This model has Javaä capability and is Bluetooth enabled. The front and rear mounted cameras have zoom and pan focus functionality, the handy camera light means excellent shots regardless of local light conditions.

European i-mode phones will also be shown at CeBIT. The latest N400i model not only takes great pictures, but can also shoot MPEG-4 movies. The camera has triple digital zoom and images are represented beautifully clearly on the 650,000 colour QVGA 2.2 inch extra large TFT screen. The light and stylish N331i, also has camera with digital zoom and is Java TM enabled.

In the WAP zone NEC will display two handsets, the e232 and e530, both come equipped with cameras, digital zoom and two screens. A compact model with a unique curved shape, the tiny e232 boasts a large 260K colour main TFT display, ideal for surfing the web, yet still fits into the palm of your hand. It also comes with a 1.0 inch colour OLED as a sub display, which can be used as a mirror as well as identifying incoming callers and displaying the time and date. The e530 is a new WAP model which is Java (TM) enabled and has USB connectivity. Smooth and sleek, this camera phone is ideal for business or personal use.

NEC offers one of the widest ranges of mobile Internet applications and application infrastructure for the mobile operator. NEC not only brings the best of its mobile services from Japan, but also provides new solutions compliant with global standards. Some of these can be seen in action at CeBIT, including Ring Back Melody, Appli-choice, Location Information Server (an Assisted Global Positioning System) and an impressive 3G Video Gateway solution, which enables phone to PC video calling and conferencing.

Ring Back Melody enables the called party to set a melody, which the caller hears until the called party answer their phone. It works with any handset and users can select a variety of melodies, sound bites or sound effects, which can be pre-assigned to specific callers or groups. NEC’s new unique Appli-choice system brings mobile Internet personalisation into standard GSM handsets.

NEC has also developed one of the first OMA (Open Mobile Alliance) compliant DRM (Digital Rights Management) solutions to appear on the market. This solution is essential to protect valuable content while facilitating flexible purchasing and generating revenue for mobile operators and content providers.
