Message Text: The demonstration of the new video codec presented by Sony Corp was held on Feb 24, 2004.

The demonstration included playback of the promotional video of Spiderman 2. The video was decoded using the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC – full name of the new codec.

The frame speed of the video playback was 24 frames/sec and the approximate speed of the encoding procedure was 2Mbps.

The PC used for the demonstration was a Pentium 4 processor at 3.2GHz with 512MB RAM and the display was a VGA format with 640x480 pixels. Also during the decoding procedure the cpu usage did not exceed the 30%.

The H.264 codec is still under development, being optimized for Hyper-Threading support, as well as a real time encoding software is under development too.

Due to the fact that the programs are not finished yet, there is no further information about the releasing date and other details.
