According to Digitimes, NEC has reduced its price for 8x DVD-Dual burners from US$110-120 at the beginning of this year to about US$95, according to Taiwanese manufacturers. This initiative was taken from Nec in order to compete Lite-On IT and BenQ who have already begun massive production of 8x DVD burners.

Taiwanese makers expect that, if 8x DVD writers’ profitability keeps thinning, NEC will sooner or later follow Sony in stopping such production. Otherwise the other Taiwanese makers will have to follow Nec’s trails and attempt a similar price cut.

Whatever happens it will surely be beneficial to consumers.
