According to Digitimes, technology obtained nearly 100 SIPs (silicon intellectual properties) to enhance its technology in multimedia controller ICs for VCD players, DVD players, digital still cameras (DSCs) and camera phones. According to company’s chairman Chou Chye Huang, with this initiative Sunplus aims to become the world’s second-largest producer of DVD player SoC (system-on-chip) ICs.
Sunplus will offer a new-generation DVD player SoC integrating servo, MPEG-2 decoder and MPEG-4 encoder/decoder this year. Because of increasing competition and pressure from price drops of DVD players, prices of DVD player SoCs will slip slightly this year, Huang predicted. |
