Message Text: LSI logic corporation releases the "Dimension 8602" series of single chip processor for the 2nd generation DVD recorders. Mass production has already started and the unit cost is less than $25.

The Dimension 8602 is already adopted by JVC and LG Elactronics. The chip is capable of NTSC/PAL video encoding while it offers control of USB interface (USB controller) in one single chip. This simplifies the design of DVD recorders while the overall cost for DVD hardware manufacturers lowers significally.
