It writes to DVD+R discs at 8x, to DVD-R at 4x, to CD-R at 40x, and to CD-RW at 24x speeds. It reads DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW and DVD-R formats at 8x, DVD-ROM at 12x and CD-ROM at 40x speeds.

The internal drive (U-30201) is available now at an MSRP of $179. An external USB 2.0 model (U-30202) will be available at the end of December. The new drive can be found at Staples, OfficeMax, Sam's Club, Fry's Electronics, Buy.com, Amazon.com and other dealers listed on the Pacific Digital Web site.
