Message Text: The WPC Expro 2003 in Japan revealed some new upcoming DVD recorders from Ricoh, Teac and Sony.

Sony demonstrated a new dual format DVD recorder supporting 8X recording for DVD+R. The design of the front panel has not changed over the previous models of the company. The ATAPI model is compliant to the 8X DVD+R recording standard and also supports 4X DVD-R/+RW and 2X DVD-RW writing. DVD-ROM media can be read at 12X CAV, while the drive has also 40/24/40 capabilities as a CD-RW drive.

Teac demonstrated a new portable DVD multi-drive the "DV-W22PUB". The drive will be available for OEM manufacturers by December. The drive uses the USB 2.0 connection interface, and supports 2X DVD-RAM, 2X DVD-R, and 1x DVD-RW writing speeds.

Moreover, Ricoh revealed a slim type DVD+R/RW drive capable of 4X DVD+R recording. The drive does not support DVD-R/RW writing, but only 2.4x for DVD+RW.
