Message Text: Thanks to increased shipments of recordable DVD drives, Taiwanese optical storage drive makers in general enjoyed growth in August revenues, according to DigiTimes.

In addition to shipment volumes, the relatively high average selling prices (ASPs) of the DVD drivers also contributed to the growth.

Lite-On IT’s August revenues grew by 12.6%, mostly because of increased shipments of DVD+RW drives and slim-type optical storage drives. Monthly shipments of the two product lines in August were estimated at about 100,000 units each.

Behavior Tech Computer (BTC) enjoyed sharp growth in August mainly due to rising shipments of 4x DVD+RW and DVD-Dual drives.

BenQ, despite a 7.7% month-on-month decline in total revenues, reported 39.4% growth in August revenues for its Imaging Network business group, which oversees the company’s storage business. The group generated NT$1.870 billion in revenues last month, compared to NT$1.341 billion in July. The company’s growth in sales of optical storage drives last month mostly came from increased shipments of combo and DVD+RW drives.

Quanta Storage, the largest slim-type optical storage drive maker in Taiwan, also reported revenue growth in August by riding on surging notebook sales. The company has also enjoyed strong sales of its recently-launched slim-type, read-only DVD traverses. Sales of the traverses, mainly to China, were estimated to surpass 100,000 units in August.
