As DigiTimes report "...Taiwan IC design industry sources expect that single-chip solutions for DVD players may fall under US$10 from the current US$15 as more competitors enter volume production. The current price does not include RF ICs, while the lower price estimate does..."
and continues "...US-based ESS Technology and Zoran are both rumored to plan to start mass production by the end of March. ESS, rumored to have been bundling its MPEG2 decoders with servo controllers from Taiwan’s ALi Corporation (formerly Acer Laboratories), is now said to have had its own single-chip solution validated by clients. Zoran is rumored to have been sending samples to customers since the beginning of this year..."
