Message Text: SANYO Electric announced today that plans to proceed with massive production of Violet lasers that can be used in DVD player, recorders from March...

The following text comes from the Japanese text

"...Now, in the field of the optical disc system, development of the next-generation mass optical disc system which can record a digital high-definition image on videotape for 2 hours or more is furthered. In order to realize this new system, the purple-blue color semiconductor laser with wavelength shorter than the red semiconductor laser used now [ DVD ] etc. as a light source for reading the signal on an optical disc is needed, and it is expected that demand will be quickly expanded with sale of a next-generation mass optical disc system and spread from now on.

By the basis of such a background, and our company, the purple-blue color semiconductor laser of 5mW of outputs was developed as an object for reproduction of a next-generation mass optical disc in March, last year, and the present sample is performed. Correspondence for the various needs of a next-generation mass optical disc system was attained by having developed the high output type of 35mW of outputs also corresponding to record reproduction this time. Which will not further development from now on aiming at the further raise in an output, either.

With this development, new investment of a total of 10 billion yen will be performed by 2005 to tip OPUTO device enterprises including purple-blue color semiconductor laser, production organization is prepared, and sales of 15 billion yen will be aimed at as purple-blue color semiconductor laser associated business in the 2006 fiscal year..."
